Judy Olmsted: a woman to be reckoned with!

It is a real pleasure to introduce Judy Olmsted, our first TIP graduate, who now excels at splitting alternates, re-categorization and, of course, answering questions on the site, among other features! Though Judy joined our online community recently, she has already become a bronze contributor with her over 2800 contributions in the Health, Human Anatomy and Biology categories. A former teacher, she is much loved by her students who voted her the Teacher of the Year three times – not to mention her own college who awarded her the honor of Educator of the Year! We are lucky to have Judy on our team, and soon she will be an Answers.com Supervisor, too! Read more and get to know her and her sense of humor…

What is your first name?

What is your occupation?

I’m a retired professor.

What is your Answers.com username and how did it come about?

It’s my full name: Judy Olmsted. I just felt I didn’t want to hide behind another name. I couldn’t see any reason.

Where in the world do you hail from and what makes this place special?

I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There was nothing but steel mills when I lived there. I did like the rivers and the mountains.

How did you discover Answers.com?

I came across it by accident and the teacher in me couldn’t just leave the answers go unexplained.

What enticed you to join our community?

I was answering questions and then I began to get “hellos” from others on the site.

What is your favorite thing to do on Answers.com?

I like to make it clear how things work. This can make everything easier and less scary. The student then has a basis to build on and maybe go on to do great things.

What life accomplishments are you proud of?

I am proud of my academic degrees. They took a lot of hard work, but I wanted to know more. There is so much to learn.

TIP GraduateWhat accomplishments on Answers.com are you proud of?

I am proud of finishing the TIP program. I think that all others wanting to become a Supervisor must do these TIP missions.

What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

I crossed the Ohio River before I could swim. I was with other kids including a younger brother. We used a “borrowed” boat.

What is your favorite type of music?

I like “nice and easy” and classical music.

What is your favorite band or artist?

What is your favorite poem and why?

winter_woodsStopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. I think that it is something that I can feel and have seen. It speaks to me.

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

  1. Space in the grey matter to stuff in more information.
  2. Help in keeping my activities in order.
  3. Something that is impossible for humans: the ability to really multitask.

You can only pick one:  banjo, butterfly, or babbling brook.  Which would you choose and why?

I like the butterfly as it goes from one beautiful flower to another always looking to sip the nectar (knowledge).

What do you find most challenging as an Answers.com contributor?

I really would like to know the age of some questioners as that would help me form an answer to fit them.

What are your special interests, hobbies, or collections?

My favorite interest is medicine, science, microbiology. I love doctor shows like House and ER.

What are you most passionate about in your life?

My grandkids. I know I sound like a regular grandma, but I think they are wonderful.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“One Step at a Time”. Going any faster seems to make a mess of the job.

Who or what is your inspiration in life?

My kids are the most important thing, BUT don’t tell them as they will want me to babysit or loan them money.

Do you have any special talents?

No more than anyone else. I can’t carry a tune in a bucket and do love to hear others sing. I can’t draw. My grandkids can do better.
