On Nursery Rhymes and Tisha05_93.

When I was a toddler, my grandmother used to sing nursery rhymes to me each night; classics such as The Mulberry BushThree Blind MiceLittle Jack Hornerand Three Little Fishies(among a myriad of others). Thinking back takes me to a place I really miss.

Memories also pop to mind whenever I see the name of this week’s Featured Contributor, Tisha05_93. The classic nursery rhyme is, of course, A-Tisket, A-Tasket. But in our case, we can put a twist on it: A-Tisha, A-Tasha. Here’s more on this talented and outgoing contributor:

What is your user name and the history behind it?

My user name is Tisha05_93Tisha is my name, and my birthday is on the 5th of July! I was born in 1993, and I consider 93 to be a very important number in my life.

Would you care to tell us about your family?

I have a younger sister and a whole lot of uncles and aunts and cousins. I am the youngest in my family (after my sister, but I will humbly accept the tag because I act more immature, LOL). I have had some tough times as a rebel growing up in the pre-teens and until last year, but I have straightened out a bit now. I am more focused; I know what I want and have my family beside me through it all. They are the best. I love them.

Do you have any pets?

Ugh, I wish! I love animals, but I do not have any pets! I do not stay at home much and move around quite a lot so I am doing the animals and myself a favour. When I have the time and ability to take care of a pet, I will get myself one.

Where did you grow up and do you have any special memories of your childhood?

I have had my childhood marked over the entire world! My father travels a lot because of his job and we kept moving around, too. I do not know what place, but I love the mountains, followed by the beach. Special Memories? Yes, I wanted to be a spy at one point! I mean, what kid doesn’t? Although, soon I realised it is not the best dream to pursue, and I gave it up for more reasonable things, like, dance and books and other stuff.

What educational information would you like to share?

I am a good student, because I do well at school. But what my teachers taught me at school never caught my attention. I have always gathered knowledge from the outside and life experiences. Books, as in, school books are useless to me. But thoughts and thinkers? Yes, I would say they make more sense than my teachers.

What are some of your past and present occupations?

I have been a dancer. I only recently moved on to fully concentrate on studies and more serious things. My mother wanted me to be a designer (fashion, that is) so I know a little about clothes.

What are your key areas of knowledge, interest or expertise?

Key areas of knowledge? Dance, fashion, tennis and discussing life, in general. Observing people, learning their outlook towards life and how I am different or like them.

Do you have any collections or hobbies?

I love to dance, sing, play tennis and be happy. I could go about shopping for like hours at a stretch!

What do you like to do for recreation?

Music, of course makes me feel good. I like to spend hours in the bath (hehe) and, also put my life on “pause” and watch others’ go by. I would love to be with my family and loved ones at the end of the day and be lifeless for a second with them filling me up with life.

What are a few random facts about yourself?

I am very picky. Very, very picky. Yes, I could go about shopping for hours, but I always end with, at the most, two items in my bag. I think people choose different roles for themselves in life. I pick to be the kid, always. It is so much fun when, as they say, “The hardest decision is picking up a crayon!” But that does not mean I cannot be serious or act my age. It is a mere choice. When it is needed for me to be not-silly, I will do that.

Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?

Oh, I make friends really quickly! I am a very good dancer, and I love to make people happy! I am a bit too good with kids. They often wonder if I am one of them. Why would they do that?

What accomplishments are you proud of?

That I have gained control of my life after some bad times, and I have always been able to make people I love, love me more.

What are your special goals or dreams?

I do not have ‘special’ goals or dreams. Simple ones like, to be happy. As soon as I turn 18, I will officially be volunteering to adopt a child which could take another two or three years, but I am willing to wait. I want a boy, but a girl would be equally amazing. I do have a name – Casmir, and my fingers crossed!

How would you describe yourself or personality?

My personality: “My maturity level depends on the person I am with.”

What brought you to

My questions about stuff. I was writing answers well before I became a member. It suddenly struck me, “What all could I do if I were a member?”

A Jamming Superstar: Timrsimpson

Our rockin’ Featured Contributor of the week is none other than Timrsimpson – an electronics master and, in our humble opinion, the “original” guitar hero. Owner of Amplifier Repair Center in Portland, Oregon, Tim was drawn to because of “the interesting challenge of answering questions from my garbage memory.” Here is more on this outgoing, intelligent and all around wonderful Superstar:

What is your user name and the history behind it?

Timrsimpson is my user name. It is just my e-mail without a number after it. It is my real name.

What is your first name?

What is your age?

Would you care to tell us about your family?

My family is spread out. My mother lives in Boise. My oldest brother lives in NW Arkansas. My next older brother lives where he pleases and is hard to locate. My younger brother lives near Osaka where he teaches English.

Do you have any pets?

No, but I miss my cat.

Where do you live, how long have you lived there and why do you like the area?

I live in Portland Oregon where I was born. It is a great place to live. The weather is moderate, and the scenery is wonderful. I have left the area several times, but always come back.

Where did you grow up and do you have any special memories of your childhood?

I grew up here. I remember a big storm on Columbus Day in the early sixties. Mount St. Helens erupting was a big event. Going to the beach.

What educational information would you like to share?

Went to school around here. I have some college, but no degrees. I received good electronics training in the Air Force.

What are some of your past and present occupations?

I have done a lot of industrial controls work. I enjoyed field service work. I now have my own repair shop where I fix guitars and musical electronics.

What are your key areas of knowledge, interest or expertise?

Science and electronics have fascinated me from a very early age. People gave me electronic junk which I fixed or modified. We had Encyclopedia Britannia or Google at your fingertips. I have played music since I was five – piano then cello. When I got a guitar I was hooked. I still play and go out to jam a lot.

Do you have any collections or hobbies?

I collect guitars and amps. Right now I only have six guitars and three amps, but I am building two guitars and three amps.

What do you like to do for recreation?

I play my guitar. I can sing and try to imitate the singer who made the song.

What are a few random facts about yourself?

I don’t drive a car. I have no depth perception and driving could be dangerous. Since I lived in Japan I have slept on the floor. I had a heart condition which has passed thanks to the V.A. I just entered a contest to design a sensor for a Mars landing; a swarm of sensors that relay gathered information.

Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?

I enjoy teaching and will be teaching a college class in tube amplifier construction this summer.

What accomplishments are you proud of?

My homemade guitars.

What are your special goals or dreams?

I recently started on my lifelong want of a degree in electrical engineering. I will start this summer getting a grasp on higher math. I would like to go to Zappas’ guitar camp in N.Y. this summer for a week, but cannot afford it.

How would you describe yourself or personality?

I am pretty easy going. I enjoy learning new things. I enjoy fixing things.

What keeps you coming back to

The hope that answering the questions will help. I like to make the questioner go further and seek more information.

What is your favorite activity?

Reading the nonsense questions, the ones without a subject. Trying to rewrite a question so it can be answered. Trashing the bad questions and answers. A love story, Une histoire d’amour.

As we all know, French is the language of love… So who better to share their love story than Julie, the Community Coordinator for Français? In both English and French, here is her story:

The beginning of my love story with WikiAnswers

This is how my love story with WikiAnswers began: Recently, with some friends, we were talking about TV shows of the 80’s and 90’s. Magnum, Starsky and Hutch, the A-Team… What awesome memories! Someone mentioned Alf, the little alien who lived in an average American family. But, what was this family’s name? No one knew. Let’s not panic, we will find the answer.

How we met: So I take a look at this awesome wide world called the internet. When typing the question in Google, What was the name of the family on the TV show Alf? we discover on the WikiAnswers site that the family was called the Tanner family. Oh, phew! Fortunately, our thirst for discovery could be quickly dominated.

The discovery of the other: But tell me, what on earth is WikiAnswers? Intrigued by this site where I found my answer, I browse a few minutes over it. It’s a site all in blue and green where you can ask any question imaginable that you might have. One of the new questions recently asked is ‘In what year did France win the World Cup?’ I know the answer to that one, that’s easy! That was in 1998! Well, nobody has responded yet. Great, on this site I can write my answer and someone will be happy that I helped them out. I’ve always wanted to help people in some way or another. This is a great way to do it!

Tiens, personne n’y a encore répondu.

Infatuation: OK, so I’ve spent an hour on this site answering many questions on a subject that I love, sports. I’ve also learned a lot about the subject. I could be the sports queen at our local trivia night. A few hours later, I receive a personalized message from the site thanking me for my contributions and wishing me a warm welcome on the site. They even ask me what my favorite TV show is. For once, this is not an automated message as they took the trouble to read my contributions … I’m starting to like this site more and more. I decide to browse the news and read about the Vancouver Olympic games. I check the number of gold medals Canada won this year. The result is 14. And how many Canadian athletes were there? Let’s have a look on Google. WikiAnswers is in 1st position and gives me the answer. Let’s click on it. 205 Canadian athlete participated in the Olympics. And if I want to know what medals they won? I ask my question on the site… and now the answer is given to me directly on WikiAnswers, no need to go on Google, on Wikipedia, nor do I have to search for my answer in a long text. In 2 seconds I have my answers!

On me demande quelle est ma série TV préférée.

In summary…

En résumé…

This is only the beginning of my long adventures and love story with WikiAnswers.
